    Great Suburbia Greenhouse,

Built this for the wifey over the summer. Well built, you will have to definitely tighten it up, caulk , weather stripping on doors. Overall I would buy again

    Upgraded to a 48' Sungrow

We installed our first greenhouse in 2022 on our high plain homestead at 9,500 feet elevation in the Colorado Rockies. At this altitude, even the warmest summer nights rarely get above 50°F, and strong winds can reach 60–80 mph with several feet of snow in the winter. Growing anything outside is nearly impossible—most crops either freeze or fail to grow due to the wind chill. We knew we needed the strongest greenhouse possible to withstand these extreme conditions.

After extensive research, we chose a 32' Sungrow kit from Planta and added two extension kits to make it 48' long. To ensure durability and year-round usability, we anchored it to a 4-foot underground foundation made of concrete blocks, effectively turning it into an underground greenhouse. The earth and concrete walls act as thermal mass, storing solar heat and helping to maintain nighttime temperatures without the need for extra heating. Even in winter, the inside stays 20–30°F warmer than outside, though it still drops below freezing.

In the coldest months, we repurpose the greenhouse to house small animals. Chickens and rabbits live inside during the winter, providing fresh eggs and natural fertilizer for the soil, ready for spring planting. It’s a bright, spacious environment that keeps them safe and warm while making the most of the structure during the off-season.

The greenhouse not only functions well—it looks amazing. It's become a multi-purpose passive solar building, and in winter, it turns into a…

I’m thinking about adding another one next year

We installed our Planta Greenhouse right next to our garden, and it’s been a fantastic addition to our growing setup. We use it to grow a wide range of crops including winter melon, cucumbers, cantaloupe, tomatoes, chayote, and bitter melon. One of the biggest advantages has been the extended growing season—it’s allowed us to get more from our plants, especially in a region with strong winds and occasional heavy snowfall.

The purchasing process was smooth and easy, with excellent customer service throughout. Before setting up the base frame, we built the beds and lined them with dead hemlock and cardboard to help retain moisture. We also installed gravel and proper drainage around the outside, which helps keep the soil inside well hydrated.

The greenhouse has proven to be strong and secure. The panels do a great job of transmitting heat, and the automatic vents regulate the temperature well. We're so pleased with how it’s performing that we’re considering adding another one next year. I’ve already recommended Planta to several people—it’s been a game-changer for us.

A Four-Season Greenhouse Dream Come True

In 2024, I installed my first greenhouse with the goal of creating a true four-season growing environment in Northwest Montana—and the experiment was a success. The greenhouse is equipped with hydronic radiant-heated beds and air heat powered by an outdoor wood boiler. A 5000 CFM exhaust ventilation system and 50% shade cloth help regulate ambient temperatures during the hot summer months, keeping conditions within optimal growing ranges year-round. With careful planning and the right systems, this greenhouse shell supports nearly any fruit or vegetable, regardless of the season.

The structure includes raised beds, a radiant-heated table for starts, shelving, and a thermostat-controlled setup for heating and cooling. I’ve also integrated grow lights and a timed irrigation drip system. Buying from Planta was easy, and customer service was great throughout the process.

My favorite part? Harvesting fresh greens and herbs in the dead of winter. If you're considering a similar four-season setup, I’ve learned a lot through this build and would be glad to share insights.
